LOVE Newsletter — First Issue

Welcome to LOVE's first newsletter. I started Legislative Organization Valuing Everyone because people's needs weren't being met, and the issues had been going on for far too long. LOVE works through grassroots efforts to uplift the community — health, with a focus on mental health, judicial reform, education, and finance.

A win to share

Allegheny County's paid parental leave policy is now law. County Executive Sara Innamorato signed it on Oct 22, after it passed County Council 11–4. It gives up to 12 weeks of paid leave after a birth, adoption, or stillbirth, for employers with 15 or more workers. LOVE supported it with a written comment to Council — neighbors were heard.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov 3 🗳️

Two things to check now:

1. Got a mail ballot? Don't wait. Return sites are open Sat/Sun 9 AM–5 PM and Mon 11 AM–7 PM. Your ballot must be RECEIVED by 8 PM on Nov 3 — a postmark is not enough. County Office Building, 542 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, is one return site; find the full list on the Allegheny County elections site.

2. Voting in person? Polls are open Tue Nov 3, 7 AM–8 PM — if you're in line by 8 PM, you can vote. But 48 polling places in Allegheny County have moved since the primary, so check yours before Tuesday at vote.pa.gov.

Help opening this week

Pennie, Pennsylvania's health insurance marketplace, opens Sun Nov 1 for 2027 coverage. Check options at pennie.com or call 1-844-844-8040.

Pennsylvania LIHEAP, help with heating bills, opens Mon Nov 2. Renters and homeowners can apply, no unpaid bill needed. Apply on COMPASS or call 1-866-857-7095. A fuller LIHEAP post follows on Fri Nov 6.

What we're watching

The county's proposed 2027 budget must be approved by Dec 6. LOVE will keep watching what it means for health, housing, and family support.
